Why a Staycation is great this Autumn

We don’t know about you but we are totally over the doom and gloom of the whole Brexit situation! We’ve decided to say goodbye to the EU Blues and start our autumn as we mean to go on, cherishing what’s great about Cornwall!

The pound may be weak but that’s even more reason to make this the year you travel to Cornwall and enjoy a ‘staycation’. We’ve put together some suggestions for things you can do this autumn in Cornwall and better still, we’ve put together our own Brexit Break – it’s about blowing off those cobwebs, unplugging from the world, checking in with us and having a great time. It’s quite literally a break from the news and it’s perfectly timed.

As we come into a new season the leaves start to fall, the weather gets slightly crisper, Truro looks even more beautiful and it’s the ideal excuse to reconnect with the one you love and enjoy some simple pleasures. Read on for our inspiration for the perfect staycation in Truro. Here’s where you’ll find us this autumn:

Going to the pictures: There’s nothing better than a night at the flicks and we’re just a short stroll from the cinema. Get yourself some popcorn (Team Salty) and snuggle up in the back row for a good old bit of comedy or a romcom

enjoy a cocktail

Enjoying an Old Fashioned: our break includes an Old Fashioned at our bar and we mix a mean cocktail (in fact, we were the first bar in Truro to mix cocktails so we really should be the best, we’ve had enough practice!).

Soaking up the Sales: Autumn means new fashions in store, the best fashion glossies in the newsagents and some fantastic deals! We love visiting Topshop, the White Company and even M&S for some of the fantastic fashion but we’re also very proud of our independent boutiques including Magpie & Fox, Plum and Bishop Philpott to name a few!

Buffing away the Brexit Blues: Nothing beats the blues like a full body scrub and massage. We highly recommend the Great Escape, only a 5 minute walk from our door (they do the most fabulous facials, scrubs and massages).

Visit the Theatre: we’re just steps from the theatre and there is always something great to watch. We also have a Theatre Break if one night is more your thing!

Explore the Cathedral: A visit to Truro isn’t complete without paying a visit to Truro Cathedral. Gothic, stunning and with the most insanely beautiful architectural design, the Cathedral is a must-see in the City.

Meander the markets: With markets on Lemon Quay each week, it’s the ideal time to find local produce and meet local suppliers. We love the Farmer’s Market!

new dishes

Indulgent Dining: Of course a meal at Mannings is an essential component of any great break. Not only have we received a mention from Jay Rayner, we also recently gained a Rosette! Our new menu has been a great hit and our specials guarantee a delicious dinner with us too. For the ultimate dining experience, finish with a Chocolate Fondue to share… it’s got our vote!

Gossip in the Urban Garden: Finish your break curling up in our private Urban Garden with a bottle of Merlot and really reconnect. Away from smartphones, televisions and the world, this is your chance to just chat the night away in the crisp autumn air with the illuminated Cathedral as your backdrop!

Even we want to book a room reading this! So what are you waiting for? Switch off the news, switch on the SatNav and put our postcode into the memory.  Forget Downing Steet, head to Lemon Street and we’ll mix you an Old Fashioned at the bar! Find out more about our Brexit Break here. Rates start from just £99 per night to include free car parking, vouchers for an Old Fashioned Cocktail and light English breakfast.
